France’s DJ Fly won his second DMC World title in the 6-minute category this year, but it was not amid controversy. DJ legend and 1988 DMC World champion has accused DJ Fly of getting his “Milli Vanilli” on at the 2013 finals held in London’s Indig02 venue. Cash posted on his Facebook account the following quote:
“I was there and had a hard time understanding what was going on..I honestly thought it was me being to old school…Now that i see this video it is clear that this was a pre-recorded mix..This is no fault of DMC at all..They did an amazing job of setting the platform…If you look at when he starts with his intro..The fader is clearly down and down but the sound is still coming out…This isn’t cool…I have to put myself in all the djs place..If i would have lost to a guy having a pre-recorded routine..I would be “OUTRAGED”…I was not the only one feeling that way..Me, Mr.Thing & Chad Jackson had a convo before he was the winner about this….You can’t win a competition cheating..I’m sorry that’s not how you do it…SMH..”
Below is DJ Fly’s 2013 winning performance…you be the judge.
Wax Murdaraz very well may be the first Riverfront Times award winners to have publicly dissed and denounced the Riverfront Times…even on one of their albums! Nonetheless, WM crew members D-Ex and Furius “Iceman” Stylz are the RFT’s 2013 Best Of St. Louis award winners in the “Best FM Radio Personality” category. Based on D-Ex and Iceman’s overall showmanship and social commentary on the weekly Hip-Hop mixshow Deep Krate Radio (Wax Murda Invasion), the RFT stated the following:
“Hip-hop owes a great debt to the spoken-word poets and urban radio jocks who came long before the genre fully formed; the art is in the beat, but it’s also present in what gets said in, about and around that beat. On air from 9 til’ 11 p.m. every Friday night on KDHX (88.1 FM), the Wax Murdaraz crew of D-Ex and Iceman capture all the humor, spontaneity and honesty of great rap on Deep Krate Radio, even when they’re just announcing an old-school cut or the latest flava. The duo is smart and cool yet welcoming to new audiences, as the two blend their stories, shoutouts and riffs with ripping scratches and segues, always broadcasting like the whole world is listening.”
Riverfront Times is a newspaper owned by the Voice Media Group, an American privately held media company which distributes multiple yet similar alternative newspapers across the country including The Village Voice, LA Weekly, Houston Press and others.
